UEFA EURO 2016 GROUP STAGE A – FRANCE vs ROMANIA RECAP

The opening game is one of the most watched and electrifying matches in a tournament and the match between France and Romania didn’t disappoint. Romania came in the match as the underdogs and it could have been a lopsided victory for France but as it turns out the winner needed 89 minutes to secure the win.

France winning goal came from Dimitri Payet who had an unbelievable experience —

“If someone had told me that it was going to be like that tonight I don’t think I would have believed it. Yes we were a bit timid and afraid of making mistakes in the opening quarter. We came up against a side who were very good at defending. The crowd helped – we know how important the points were. Now we’re able to rest up and prepare for the second game. Had we won by two or three goals that might have misled us slightly. The fact we won like that shows there won’t be any easy matches and we have to go out and win matches.”

France coach Didier Deschamps has this to say —

“It’s good to have won. The Romania team aren’t easy to play against – and we knew that. We had chances, but we conceded a few as well. We had a bit of trouble letting our hair down, but we got our reward in the end. I made sure we played to win, with four attacking players on the pitch at the end. Given the context, an opening match is never easy.”

Kevin Love out for Game 3 in NBA Finals 2016

in NBA

Kevin Love was injured in Game 2 of the NBA finals when Harrison Barnes accidentally elbowed him when scrambling for a rebound of a free-throw attempt.

The Cleveland Cavaliers is in a must-win situation against the Golden State Warriors as another lose would put them 0-3 in the NBA Finals 2016. The Cavaliers are hoping the home-court advantage together with huge contributions from Irving and Love would help them secure Game 3.

Kevin Love remained on the floor after the incident with Barnes while play continued. He eventually stood, finished the second quarter and appeared at the start of the third. He appeared fine in the game but requested to be taken out after he felt dizzy.

Doctors determined to place Love on concussion protocol. With two days rest the Cavaliers were hoping to get Kevin Love back in the game and help them climb back in the series. It doesn’t look Love is healthy and would have to sit this one out.

Channing Frye will put in the workload tonight and hopefully he can have the same impact as Delladova. It would be remembered that the Cavaliers went down 0-2 last year against the Warriors before winning two straight games. Without Love and Irving, Delladova stepped up offensively and defensively that helped them event he series at 2 games apiece.

Manny Pacquiao Impressive on his Retiring Fight vs Timothy Bradley

in Boxing

Manny Pacquiao delivered a couple of knockdowns in the seventh and ninth rounds, solid punches, and consistent defense as he won on three judges scorecard 116-110 to finally close his rivalry with Timothy Bradley and announce his retirement.

Pacquaio’s professional record now stands at 58-6-2, 38 KO while Timothy Bradley is 33-2-1, 13 KO after their third fight. Contrary to Bradley’s controversial win over Pacman in 2012, Pacquiao had a dazzling array of hits, defensive blocks, dodges and the relentless combination we have seen from him in his younger peak days en route to an unanimous decision.

Manny Pacquiao has said he is retiring after this fight, “Yes, I am retired,” Pacquiao said. “I want to go home to my family and serve the people.”, but whether that actually happens remain to be seen. Whatever the decision of Pacman, the important thing is that his last fight may not be the greatest we have seen from him but it is one of the best fights for a retiring great boxer.

The fight didn’t generate a lot of buzz and speculation of Pacman’s brilliance was in question as 11 months ago his performance against Floyd Mayweather has been underwhelming. The fight went well as both fighters showed they are still on top of their game for their age with Pacman being faster and better defensively, as Bradley noted — “He was a step ahead of me,” Bradley observed afterward. “I was supposed to be a step ahead of him.”. Pacquiao went out blazing on the first round a good starting point for recovery from all the negative buzz generated from his last fight.

Two more years down the road before we can finally conclude if Pacquiao is really retiring but whatever happens, this fight has been a good career ender for Manny Pacquiao.
