Tom Brady and the Patriots were Simply Spectacular
San Diego Chargers just could not hold-off Tom Brady who relentlessly made things happen on the field.
The three-time Super Bowl champ showed his experience over league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson by helping and ensuring his New England Patriots overcame an eight point deficit to win the game finishing with a score of 24-21. Tom fueled an 11 point output in just 3:26 late in the game to send them to Indianapolis for a possible fourth Super Bowl appearance in six seasons.
Brady and linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who also helped the Patriots in their Super Bowl runs earlier this decade, walked off the field together.
The win by New England mean San Diego coach, Marty Schottenheimer, is most likely going to lose his job after a pathetic 5-13 postseason record.
Patriots not only defeated the Chargers but they also made Tomlinson very mad by dancing on the Charger’s logo at midfield. Tomlinson said they should have respected and showed class in their win. I suspect the Chargers were so happy they have forgotten they are in front of a record crowd of 68,810.
Everyone thought it was San Diego going away with the win especially when nine of their players were voted to the Pro Bowl team and five to the All-Pro team. Tomlinson provided the killer punch as the most prolific scorer in one season in NFL history with 31 touchdowns and 186 points while winning the rushing title with 1,815 yards.
Tom Brady is known as the Regular Season MVP slayer as he has beaten a lot of them in the past:
2001 Kurt Warner, Rams L, 20-17
2003 Steve McNair, Titans (co-MVP) L, 17-14
2003 Peyton Manning, Colts (co-MVP) L, 24-14
2004 Peyton Manning, Colts L, 20-3
2006 LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers L, 24-21
We are going to see whether the combination of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady (12-1 postseason record) would continue to flourish as they play their next game in Indianapolis.
