  1. As a jiu jitsu guy, it's always weird to me when I see guys letting the kimura get so deep. In jiu jitsu, you learn that you can get your way out of some things, and some things you won't. An arm-bar is one of those things you just might get out of. A kimura is one of those things you won't.
Then I remember… they've got those ridiculous UFC gloves on. They can't really grab your wrist. The glove forces you to try to apply a kimura from halfway up the forearm… so escape is feasible.
Just another way in which the UFC gloves suck. They introduce a sense of clumsiness to grappling in which there's hardly ever a good time to tap… so you just have to wait until you're injured.

  2. I've always felt a big reason why Frank went downhill was because he tried to become more of a striker and abandoned his BJJ. He was destructive with his BJJ.

  3. For Mir to comeback from that knockout where he was face planted is impressive. Would have been more impressive had he done it before he was kissing the mat completely limp and the ref not only not calling it but yelling at Noguera who doesnt speak great english and got afraid he would be dq. Which is why he didnt just continue to pound on Mir lifeless body.

  4. If someone gets a kimura grip from top half-guard, all you have to do is lay flat on your back and hold the half-guard. They can't put your hand behind your back then and can't submit you. Now if they pass your half-guard and still have the kimura, you need to stop their hips from passing your free arm and keep your arm straight to stop the one handed kimura.

  5. So I applied three really deep kimuras in my first three fights when I was 20. Immediately broke broke all three guys’ arms (all 1st rd). The promotion (regionally based, not UFC, but respectable) dropped me and I never fought a sanctioned fight again. No one tapped before I snapped them and the ref did not wave it off. Fuck em all!!!
